--Overnight Work at Powhatan Pump Station--

--Pump & Haul Trucks at Current Richmond Crescent & Monroe Place Pump Stations--

Construction Update

  • On Wednesday, July 30th, a period of overnight work is planned at the Powhatan pump station site at the corner of Buckingham Avenue and Powhatan Avenue that is currently undergoing rehabilitation. This overnight work will include shutting down the existing sewer pipe in order to tie it in to a bypass system that will eventually allow a tie-in between the pump station and a new sewer pipe. The bypass system will ensure sewer services are not interrupted during construction.
  • This work will take place after normal daytime construction hours, most likely between 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. This time period is necessary as the work requires there to be low sewage flows inside the sewer pipe. Pump & Haul trucks will be used to pump any sewage in the pipes, and they will haul it to the nearby pump stations; this will ensure that sewer services in the neighborhood are not interrupted. Carrying out the work during this time is estimated to have the least impact on traffic and pedestrians in the Larchmont area.
  • Pump & Haul trucks will be present at the current Richmond Crescent pump station site (1228 Richmond Crescent) and the current Monroe Place pump station site (5808 Monroe Place) to monitor and pump down wet wells during this work. There may be motor noise present.
  • During this time, you may hear noises such as backup alarms, excavators, motors, and other work. Extra light may be present from a light tower used to illuminate the work. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. There may be a presence of sewer odors in the vicinity of this work.
  • This overnight work is expected to last for 1 night. The overall rehabilitation work at the Powhatan Pump Station site is anticipated to be completed by early 2026. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather-and-situation dependent, and dates are subject to change or be extended.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
