Pump Station Updates:
Excavation at the pump station 160 site at 2245 E Washington Street is now complete. Stone has been installed within the excavation, and concrete preparations are underway. Concrete placements should begin in early November and will occur every couple of weeks through early spring 2026.
NOTE: Due to the duration of the concrete placements, these will typically be in the early morning hours. Nearby sewer pipe installation will have lane closures on Washington Street as they work their way to the pump station.
Clearing and preparations near Virgina Ham Drive, the future site of Pump Station 159, are complete. Launch and receiving pits to be used for the installation of pipes in this area began in October. During this work, the driving of sheet piles will occur, which will create noise in the area. This portion of work is expected to last until early 2026. Please see Construction Update Notice #4 under the "Project Advisories" section of the webpage for more information.
Sewer Pipeline Updates:
In November, the microtunnel under the railroad tracks near Myrtle Avenue will begin. Once started, this will be a 24/7 operation until completed in approximately early 2026. This process will allow the pipeline to be installed in one pit and tunneled underground to a receiving pit. This will cause less disruption aboveground and will ensure the sewer pipe installation does not affect the railroad tracks. The microtunnel receiving pit in the Cypress Park area has been completed. The entrance to Cypress Park near Arizona Avenue will have periodic closures. Portions of the parking lot may be closed off. This work will involve installing sheet piling and excavation. This portion of work is expected to last through early 2026.
Crews are installing an 8-inch sewer pipe along 58 Business (Portsmouth Boulevard) between Proctor Street and Myrtle Street. This work will involve excavation of the roadway to install the pipeline underground, so traffic patterns will shift and will include periodic, temporary lane closures. Access to homes/businesses will be available. This section of work is expected to occur for several months.
Additionally, sewer pipe installation continues on Kentucky Avenue and then onto Hollywood Avenue and East Washington Street. This installation will occur with an open-cut trench method, meaning digging will occur from the street to install the pipe underground. Traffic patterns will include lane closures on Kentucky Avenue and Hollywood Avenue during construction. Access to homes/businesses will be available. This portion of the work is anticipated to be completed in early spring 2026.
