This project is necessary to increase the reliability of the sewage collection system by providing an automated valve that will increase operational flexibility to maintain desired system performance. When we say “automated” valve, we are referring to a valve with an electric actuator that opens and closes the valve automatically based on the current pressure readings in the HRSD sewer system. If pressure is too high in one area, some sewer flow can be diverted to an area with lower pressure.

Some parking areas for the park at the end of Salem Woods Road will be closed during construction. Access along Salem Woods Road to the northern entrance of Salem Woods Park will be maintained throughout construction by the Contractor using flagging operations. Flagging operations should only be necessary for a limited time during construction for equipment staging and the installation of the access driveway.
-
Access to the park will be maintained. No other properties will be affected during construction.
-
Work will typically take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours (8 a.m. - 4 p.m.). However, there will be times when extended hours, work at night, or weekend work will be necessary. This construction will be limited as much as possible but will still be necessary.
-
Water and sewer services should not be impacted by this project.
-
Where the new driveway will be installed along Salem Woods Road, asphalt, curb and gutters will be removed and then restored upon completion of the project. Areas outside of the roadway where excavation is necessary will be restored upon completion of the project.
-
The typical construction noises such as equipment engines, back-up alarms, materials being delivered, diesel generators, air compressors, sawing, etc. should be anticipated.
-
It is anticipated that the contractor will store the equipment and supplies onsite within the active work zone.
-
Construction workers will not be allowed to park their personal vehicles on the public streets. However, work trucks will be allowed to park around the active work zone.
-
The estimated cost for the project is approximately $500,000 and is financed by the wastewater treatment fees paid by HRSD ratepayers.
-
Any updates on the project will be posted on the HRSD website at www.hrsd.com/newsroom.
