All Southbound Lanes of Independence Boulevard Closed at Hinsdale Street for Emergency Force Main Repairs; One Northbound Lane Also Closed

Body

(VIRGINIA BEACH) – HRSD crews have closed all southbound lanes of Independence Boulevard at Hinsdale Street to assess damage and begin making repairs to a primary force main that has failed in the area. All southbound traffic on Independence Boulevard approaching Hinsdale Street is being detoured at Jericho Road to Witchduck Road to safely perform this work. The left northbound lane of Independence Boulevard is also closed at James Street; the center and right northbound lanes of Independence Boulevard remain open to traffic in the area.

Motorists may experience delays because of the detour and reduced travel lanes and should plan accordingly.

HRSD's mission is to protect public health and the waters of Hampton Roads by treating wastewater effectively. A political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, HRSD was created by public referendum in 1940 and currently serves 18 cities and counties in southeast Virginia, an area with a population of 1.7 million.
