James River Treatment Plant SWIFT Improvements

-- Well Installation Update for Well #7 --

HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, is undertaking improvements for the James River Treatment Plant SWIFT project. The construction at well site #7 (please see the map on the back for location information) will shift to 24-hour operations starting Friday, in order to complete this portion of work.

Well Completion Information:

  • The drilling at Well #7 has been completed and the well is being installed in the drilled hole. The completion of the well requires a few activities that must be done continuously until complete.  These activities include installing the casing and screens, both of which are generally “quieter" than the well drilling operation.
  • 24-hour work periods during this phase of installation promote stabilization of the well hole as the well is being constructed, which helps prevent the risk of hole collapse which would result in significant delays.
  • Installing the casing and screens will be limited to the diesel engines and machinery that may sound like a generator. Lighting will be used during this process.
  • Below are pictures of the installation process.

Construction Update:

  • Beginning as early as May 10th, work at Well #7 will shift to 24-hour operations.
  • This 24-hour operation is projected to last up to 1-2 days. The work may take longer based on productivity and weather.
  • There may be minor noise associated with the machines around Well #7. As a comparison, the noise is expected to be no louder than what city traffic would be 100 feet away.
  • This portion of work should not affect your water or sewer services.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.

Thank you for your support of this effort to help achieve HRSD’s vision:

Our communities will have clean waterways and reliable water resources for generations to come.
