James River Treatment Plant SWIFT Improvements

Body

-- Sheet Piling to Occur --

HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, continues work to implement the Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow Program (SWIFT) at the James River Treatment Plant. Sheet piling will occur intermittently on HRSD’s James River Treatment Plant property (please refer to the map on the back of this notice).  This work should take place primarily between the hours of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Construction Activity Update:

  • Beginning as early as August 12, sheet piling installation will occur near your home/business.
  • This work will include using cranes, generators, and a vibratory hammer, to drive sheet piles as part of the installation of a new secondary clarifier.
  • The metal sheet piles will be placed into the earth using the vibratory hammer, which at times may seem loud due to the interlocking metal sheet piles clanging during installation. These interlocking metal sheets create a solid surface for holding earth in place during construction.
  • To protect residential structures during construction, vibration monitoring will be used during this project.  Alerts are provided to the contractor if vibrations reach a particular level and work will be stopped if these vibrations exceed the federally established levels that may cause damage to residential structures.
  • This work should not affect your water or sewer services.
  • This section of work will be intermittent and is anticipated to be completed in 2-3 months. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent and dates are subject to change.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise, traffic, crews, and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site.

Please visit the project’s webpage www.hrsd.com/james-river-tp-swift-improvements for updates.

Thank you for your support of this effort to help achieve HRSD’s vision:

Our communities will have clean waterways and reliable water resources for generations to come.
