James River Treatment Plant SWIFT Improvements
--Construction Update--
HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility has installed a temporary sound barrier to help reduce the noise being created at the James River Treatment Plant.
Construction Update:
- The temporary 20-foot sound barrier was installed on the west end of the James River Treatment Plant.
- The sound barrier will be in place until late 2025. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent and dates are subject to change or be extended.
For more information click here to view the "Sinking Land, Rising Seas" handout.
While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise, traffic, crews, and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site.

Thank you for your support of this effort to help achieve HRSD’s vision:
Our communities will have clean waterways and reliable water resources for generations to come.
