James River Treatment Plant SWIFT Improvements

Body

-- Piling to Occur --

HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, is undertaking improvements at the James River Treatment Plant SWIFT site. This work should take place primarily between the hours of 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday – Friday. During October-November, any potential weekend site work will occur on Saturday between the hours of 8 am. to 4 pm.

Construction Activity Update:

  • Structural Piling will include cranes, compressors, and generators. These piles are known as “Auger Cast Piles” and are drilled into place rather than a driven (hammer) type. Structural Piling is expected to create less noise during the installation process. We expect this process to begin in late October and is expected to last for approximately 6 months.
  • Sheet Piling will include installation of long metal plates around the perimeter of the building excavations to hold the ground in place during the construction process. This process will utilize cranes, generators, and a vibrator unit that places each metal plate in place. Some noise is expected from this process including a humming noise and generators during this phase of the work. We expect this work to begin in mid-November and is expected to last through February 2023.
  • This work should not affect your water or sewer services.
  • No site operations are expected over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend (11/24-11/27) or the Christmas holiday (12/25-12/26).

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise, traffic, crews, and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site.

Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent and dates are subject to change. Please visit the project’s web page www.hrsd.com/james-river-tp-swift-improvements for updates.

Thank you for your support of this effort to help achieve HRSD's vision:

Future generations will inherit clean waterways and be able to keep them clean.
