Birch Street Pump Station

--Utility Work to Begin--

HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, will begin work to install sanitary sewer piping and bypass pumping at the Birch Street Pump Station (formerly the City of Norfolk Pump Station 57) located at 2800 Birch Street. This pump station was previously owned and operated by the City of Norfolk, but HRSD is now the owner and operators and will be making some improvements. This work is being performed in anticipation of the construction renovation that is planned for 2024. The work should take place primarily between the hours of 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday – Friday.

Construction Update:

  • Some work has already begun at the pump station including preparations for pipe installation and bypass pump placement. Bypass pumps are expected to be installed in late July.
  • This work will take place during daytime and on HRSD’s pump station property.
  • The bypass pumps will remain onsite for several years until renovation of the station is complete.
  • This work should not affect your water or sewer services.
  • The construction portion (installation of associated piping and bypass pumping) is anticipated to be completed in 4-6 weeks. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent and dates are subject to change.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise, traffic, crews, and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site.

Thank you for your support of this effort to help achieve HRSD's vision:

Future generations will inherit clean waterways and be able to keep them clean.
