Body

CHESAPEAKEHRSD crews worked through the night to repair a 36-inch force main failure that occurred early Saturday morning near 3025 Gum Court in Chesapeake, finalizing repairs and stopping the leak early Sunday morning. Initial assessments indicate external corrosion as the cause of damage and resulting leak. The preliminary estimated volume of wastewater spilled is approximately 500,000 gallons.

With the pipe now repaired, HRSD crews have shifted their efforts to clean up and restoration of the area. The HRSD Water Quality department continues working with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and the Virginia Department of Health (VDH) to monitor the impacted waterways through sampling and water testing. For information and public health advisories related to recreation, swimming, fishing and shellfish safety in the impacted waterways, please visit VDH.
