HRSD Responds to Reports of Sanitary Sewer Overflows Near Great Bridge Boulevard and Neal Street in Chesapeake

Body

CHESAPEAKEHRSD crews have responded to reports of sewer overflows near the intersection of Great Bridge Boulevard and Neal Street. Crews believe a blockage in the sewer pipeline may be the cause and worked to recover the spilled sewage and remove the blockage using Vactor or vacuum tanker trucks. They have also installed a bypass to prevent additional spilling. The overflow went into stormwater drainage structures along Neal and Marcus streets that lead to Newton Creek, a tributary of the Elizabeth River.

There is no disruption of HRSD services and there are no traffic impacts at this time.

Residents should avoid contact with raw sewage and wash hands well with clean water and soap if contact is made.
