UPDATE: HRSD Responds to Reports of Sanitary Sewer Overflows Near Great Bridge Boulevard and Neal Street in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKEHRSD crews responded to reports of sewer overflows near the intersection of Great Bridge Boulevard and Neal Street that occurred the evening of December 24. A blockage in the sewer line caused the overflow. The blockage was cleared, and the spill was contained in the early hours of December 25. The spill amount volume from HRSD assets was approximately 2,500 gallons. Clean-up of the area has occurred with remaining minor areas of cleanup currently in progress. The overflow went into stormwater drainage structures along Neal and Marcus streets that lead to Newton Creek, a tributary of the Elizabeth River. Water quality sampling began December 26. There is no disruption of HRSD services, and there are no traffic impacts at this time.
