Virtual meeting scheduled via Skype

VIRGINIA BEACH -- In adherence with CDC recommendations of physical distancing to minimize the spread and exposure to COVID-19, the next meeting of the HRSD Commission will be a virtual meeting held via Skype on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.

HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, is undertaking a project to inspect and perform maintenance of the internal sanitary sewer piping and valves along Gum Court. This work should take place primarily between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. This work can be weather and situation dependent and should not affect your water or sewer services.

-24/7 “around the clock” work to begin-

HRSD suffered a major line break of a primary force main on 16th Street in Newport News on Monday, January 4, 2021. Emergency repair work is currently underway to repair the pipe. In order to aid in the repair, temporary bypass piping and pumping will be installed along 16th Street between Jeb’s Place and Monitor Merrimac Overlook Park. The installation of this temporary bypass system will require 24/7 “around the clock” work through the month of January.

This work can be weather and situation dependent and should not affect your water or sewer services.

(NEWPORT NEWS) – HRSD crews and contractors have made preliminary repairs to the primary force main that failed on Monday and were able to stop the discharge of untreated wastewater into the James River this morning. Wastewater flows were diverted into the river Monday morning following the force main break as a course of last resort. The high volume carried by the 36-inch pipe prevented a pump and haul operation at this site, and existing infrastructure did not allow for the diversion of wastewater to another treatment plant.

(VIRGINIA BEACH) – The HRSD ransomware attack that occurred in November 2020 disrupted billing across the service region for several weeks, affecting November and December bills, as well as access to customer accounts.

NEWPORT NEWS – HRSD suffered a major line break of a primary force main on 16th Street in Newport News on Monday, January 4. This 36-inch force main carries wastewater to the Boat Harbor Treatment Plant and is part of a 2-mile, $16 million pipe replacement Capital Improvement project (BHO15600) that is currently underway.
