Emergency Utility Work at Willard Pump Station
-- Work to occur from the National Avenue and Willard Avenue intersection to Downes Street --
HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, is working to repair a line break that was discovered on Tuesday, August 6, near Hampton University. To prevent any sanitary sewer spills, crews will install a bypass sewer pipeline from the Willard Avenue Pump Station located at the corner of National Avenue and S. Willard Avenue to Downes Street.
Repair Update:
- Preparatory work is currently underway, and crews will be on-site beginning Monday, August 12.
- Bypass line installation may require crews to work around the clock.
- This work should not affect your water or sewer services.
- This emergency bypass work is expected to take a few weeks to install; however, the bypass line will remain in place for approximately 9 months. The completion timeline is weather and situation dependent and may be extended.
While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise, traffic, crews, and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site.
We thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to make these repairs.
