South Norfolk Pump Stations & Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project
--Project Update--
Rodgers Street Sewer Pipeline Update
Following the digging of trenches, work continued down Rodgers Street this month with the installation of pipeline and manholes. This pipeline work is expected to reach Holly Avenue during late July/early August.
During excavation and the installation of pipeline, Rodgers Street will be restricted with no through driving allowed between Park Avenue and Byrd Avenue to ensure safety around the construction area. However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes via the side street of Holly Avenue and various alleys. The pipeline work on Rodgers Street is expected to be completed by early 2025.
While the contractors work on Rodgers Street, you may hear noises such as engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Vibration monitors will be located onsite and near the construction area to ensure limited disruption to you in your residence. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. Dust control measures such as paving, frequent road cleaning and/or application of water will be enacted to reduce dust from becoming airborne. After construction, roadways and rights-of-way will be restored to their pre-construction structure and materials.
Park Avenue Pump Station Update
After completing the installation of a manhole in front of the pump station site in early July, our contractors began the masonry work portion of the Park Avenue Pump Station construction, laying down concrete blocks to build up the station’s walls. They also installed a duct bank this month to provide electrical conduits for pump station equipment. Upcoming work includes the pouring of a concrete slab for the pump station’s generator building.
Continuing construction work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 6 PM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until summer 2025.
Park Avenue Pipeline Work Update
This month, our contractors continued restoration work on Park Avenue including repairing the roadway, pouring of concrete, performing grading and stone bedding, and repairing city storm drains. Upcoming restoration work will include reconstructing gutters, laying down an asphalt base on the road, repouring the sidewalk, reseeding excavated soil, and performing a surface paving. Efforts will mainly be focused on the restoration of the intersection of Decatur Street and Park Avenue with concrete as the road base.
Park Avenue will continue to be restricted with no through driving allowed between Hull Street and Jackson Avenue to ensure safety around the construction area. Work on Park Avenue between Bainbridge Boulevard and Hull Street has been extended, and the road is currently restricted until late 2024 at the earliest.
However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes and alleys via Stewart Street, Decatur Street, and Rodgers Street between Jefferson Street and Holly Avenue. The pipeline work on Park Avenue is expected to be completed by late 2024.
Ferebee Pump Station Update
The replacement structure for Ferebee Pump Station is in its final design stages and is expected to begin construction during late 2024.
While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
