South Norfolk Pump Stations & Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project
--Project Update--
Rodgers Street and Holly Avenue Intersection Closure
- The following conditions are set to begin as early as September 30th :
- Rodgers Street, directly next to Truitt Elementary School, will be closed to through traffic during construction as part of South Norfolk Pump Stations and Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project.
- To access the student drop-off for Truitt Elementary School, residents will need to follow the blue traffic flow route outlined in the map below. The bus entrance is also highlighted, but no cars are allowed in that entrance. The red route depicts the general detour flow. Mail and packages should continue to be delivered along the work area, and trash should still be collected.
- There is no street parking or through traffic, but residents may park in their driveway.
- The expected end date for this construction is early 2025.

Park Avenue Pump Station Update
Restoration continues on Park Avenue and is estimated to complete by the beginning of October. Our contractors are working to reinstall curbs and gutters along with performing restoration at the intersection of Park Avenue and Decatur Street.
Park Avenue will continue to be restricted with no through driving allowed between Hull Street and Jackson Avenue to ensure safety around the construction area. Work on Park Avenue between Bainbridge Boulevard and Hull Street continues, and the road is currently restricted until late 2024 at the earliest. However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes and alleys via Stewart Street, Decatur Street, and Rodgers Street between Jefferson Street and Holly Avenue. The pipeline work on Park Avenue is expected to be completed by late 2024.
While the contractors continue working on Park Avenue, you may hear noises such as engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Vibration monitors will be located onsite and near the construction area to ensure limited disruption to you in your residence. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. Dust control measures such as paving, frequent road cleaning and/or application of water will be enacted to reduce dust from becoming airborne. After construction, roadways and rights-of-way will be restored to their pre-construction structure and materials.
Park Avenue Pipeline Work Update
Construction at the Park Avenue pump station site continued this month with the placing of block work for the pump station’s generator building. Our contractors have also started the installation of the roofing system, and shingles will be installed in the upcoming month.
Continuing construction work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 6 PM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until summer 2025.
Ferebee Pump Station Update
The replacement structure for Ferebee Pump Station is in its final design stages and is expected to begin construction during late 2024.
While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
