South Norfolk Pump Stations & Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project

Body

--Project Update--

Rodgers Street and Holly Avenue Intersection Closure

Work continued down Rodgers Street this month with the installation of pipeline and manholes, starting from the intersection of Holly Avenue and Rodgers Street next to Truitt Intermediate School earlier in the month. Restoration has also begun on the construction areas on Rodgers Street north of Holly Avenue, rebuilding the grade of the avenue at its intersection with Park Avenue.image 1

During excavation and the installation of pipeline, Rodgers Street will be restricted with no through driving allowed between Park Avenue and Byrd Avenue to ensure safety around the construction area. However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes via the side street of Holly Avenue and various alleys. The pipeline work on Rodgers Street is expected to be completed by early 2025.

While the contractors work on Rodgers Street, you may hear noises such as engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Vibration monitors will be located onsite and near the construction area to ensure limited disruption to you in your residence. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. Dust control measures such as paving, frequent road cleaning and/or application of water will be enacted to reduce dust from becoming airborne. After construction, roadways and rights-of-way will be restored to their pre-construction structure and materials.

Park Avenue Pump Station Update

image 2Following the placing of block work at the Park Avenue pump station site last month, our contractors continued the installation of the pump station’s roofing system. Additional work included installation of duct work and electrical conduits, installation of insulation, and installation of lower windows. They also continued work on the generator building with installing of its roofing system, duct work, and plumbing.

Continuing construction work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 6 PM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until summer 2025.

Bainbridge Boulevard Pipeline Work Update

Work began on the Bainbridge Boulevard pipeline replacement portion of the South Norfolk project with the initial excavation of an open trench and theimage 3 installation of 12” sewer pipe, starting from the intersection of Bainbridge Boulevard and Paxson Avenue and moving southward towards the future Ferebee pump station site. After the initial installation of pipe, the asphalt was tamped down. The expected pipeline work period is two to three months.

As a result of the work on Bainbridge, the northbound side of Bainbridge Boulevard will be restricted to one lane between the west entrance to Southgate Plaza near Swain Avenue and Chapin Road to the south. Residents on Bainbridge Boulevard and Swain Avenue will be able to access their homes via their normal routes.

Park Avenue Pipeline Work Update

Restoration has completed on Park Avenue between Bainbridge Boulevard and Rodgers Street! Temporary asphalt has been laid, and the road will be restored to its original materials during the final stages of the South Norfolk project.

Ferebee Pump Station Update

The replacement structure for Ferebee Pump Station is in its final design stages and is expected to begin construction during late 2024.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
