South Norfolk Pump Stations & Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project
--Project Update--
Rodgers Street Sewer Pipeline Update
Work continued on Rodgers Street this month with the installation of pipeline and manholes south of Holly Avenue and next to Truitt Intermediate School. Paving began on the areas on Rodgers Street north of Holly Avenue where pipeline installation has completed in preparation for asphalt placement. Subcontractors began to rebuild the curb and gutter at the intersection of Holly Avenue and Rodgers Street.
During excavation and the installation of pipeline, Rodgers Street will be restricted with no through driving allowed between Park Avenue and Byrd Avenue to ensure safety around the construction area. However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes via the side street of Holly Avenue and various alleys. The pipeline work on Rodgers Street is expected to be completed by early 2025.
While the contractors work on Rodgers Street, you may hear noises such as engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Vibration monitors will be located onsite and near the construction area to ensure limited disruption to you in your residence. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. Dust control measures such as paving, frequent road cleaning and/or application of water will be enacted to reduce dust from becoming airborne. After construction, roadways and rights-of-way will be restored to their pre-construction structure and materials.
Park Avenue Pump Station Update
Following the installation of the pump station’s roofing system, our contractors began to install siding on the Park Avenue Pump Station. Additional work included the installation of electrical routing, process piping, and interior lighting. They also continued work on the generator building with the installation of electrical routing and process piping.
Continuing construction work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 6 PM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until summer 2025.
Bainbridge Boulevard Pipeline Work Update
Our contractors continue excavation on the Bainbridge Boulevard pipeline replacement with saw cutting to extend the pipeline trench and excavation work at the intersection of Bainbridge Boulevard and Ferebee Avenue, with pipe installation working around existing pipelines. The expected pipeline work period is two to three months.
As a result of the work on Bainbridge, the northbound side of Bainbridge Boulevard will be restricted to one lane between the west entrance to Southgate Plaza near Swain Avenue and Chapin Road to the south. Residents on Bainbridge Boulevard and Swain Avenue will be able to access their homes via their normal routes.
Ferebee Pump Station Update
The replacement structure for Ferebee Pump Station is in its final design stages and is expected to begin construction during early 2025.
While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
