Byrd Avenue Sewer Pipeline Update

image

Sewer pipeline replacement continued down Byrd Avenue past the intersection with Chamberlain Avenue, excavating and installing sewer laterals in front of residences. Restoration and paving of Byrd Avenue post-construction has continued past Chamberlain Avenue. The school bus access entrance on Byrd Avenue remains closed, but the Rodgers Avenue entrance is open for entry. Access to the Lakeside Park parking lot for residents will be made easier entering via the Rodgers Avenue school bus entrance.

Additionally, excavation has begun for sewer pipeline replacement at the intersection of Byrd Avenue and Bainbridge Boulevard. The work will reduce the area on Bainbridge Boulevard at this intersection to one lane.

During the construction, Byrd Avenue will be closed to through traffic with no street parking. Residents will need to access their homes via side streets. If you live on Byrd Avenue between Bainbridge Boulevard and Rodgers Street, please be aware of the following:

  • Mail and package delivery service to residents will not be impacted. Contractors will work with delivery services to ensure that mail and packages reach your home.
  • Trash service will continue to be picked up in the locations where you typically place your trash.
  • Additional parking at Lakeside Park has been set up as needed for use by Byrd Avenue residents.

Construction will take place during daytime hours (7 AM – Sunset). During this operation, you may hear noises such as excavation, engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted.

Rodgers Street Sewer Pipeline Update

The concrete pavement has been completed on Rodgers Street between Holly Avenue and Byrd Avenue. Final pavement to include the final overlay is scheduled to occur by the end of June/early July. Richmond Street remains closed to through traffic during final construction work but is open to school buses. Residents will be able to access their homes via the side street of Holly Avenue and various alleys.

Ferebee Avenue Pump Station Update

At the Ferebee Pump Station site, the driving of sheet piles is expected to begin as early as June 24th. Driving of these sheet piles is necessary to hold soil back after excavation of the site to lay the foundation. Vibrations and noise from work may be higher than normal due to work associated with this pile driving. Sheet piling activity is expected to be completed in 6-8 weeks. Vibration monitors are in place to ensure that vibration levels are kept below the allowed threshold. During material deliveries or concrete pours, southbound traffic on Bainbridge Boulevard may be reduced to one lane. The pump station construction is expected to be completed by late 2027.

Park Avenue Pump Station Update

Contractors continued work in several areas at the pump station this past month including the calibration of pump, HVAC, and generator systems at the new pump station site. They also continued to install electrical infrastructure such as conduits and wiring to control cabinets and are still connecting and testing process piping.

Continuing construction work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 6 AM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until summer 2025.

Bainbridge Boulevard Construction Update

The majority of sewer pipeline work on Bainbridge Boulevard between Swain Avenue and Ferebee Avenue has been completed, followed by restoration and paving. A portion of work between Swain Avenue and Chapin Avenue remains. After installing a gravity sewer pipeline at the intersection of Swain Avenue and Bainbridge Boulevard, a temporary bypass pumping system was installed. The pipeline work is tentatively planned to be completed by summer 2025.

During the work on Bainbridge Boulevard, the northbound side of Bainbridge Boulevard will be restricted in areas to one lane between the west entrance to Southgate Plaza near Swain Avenue and Ferebee Avenue to the south. Residents on Bainbridge Boulevard and Swain Avenue will be able to access their homes via their normal routes.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
