South Norfolk Pump Stations & Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project
--Project Update--
Bainbridge Boulevard Sewer Pipeline Update

Sewer pipe installation is moving southward on Bainbridge Boulevard to its intersection with Chesapeake Drive, then moving south toward Swain Avenue.
Starting as early as May 21, the northbound lanes of Bainbridge Boulevard will be closed at the intersection with Chesapeake Drive. Northbound traffic will have access to a southbound lane for travel.
Residents on Post Avenue and Chesapeake Drive can access their homes and businesses via detour routes depicted in blue on the map to the right. The orange area on Chesapeake Drive in the map to the right will be closed to through traffic, but residents may use this area to access homes. The work is expected to take 4-6 weeks.
The overall project pipeline construction is expected to be completed by summer 2027.
Ferebee Avenue Pump Station Update

Contractors continued construction at the new Ferebee Pump Station site with the installation of stairwell brackets, manholes, influent lines, and external piping installation, along with excavation for meter vaults. Masonry placement should begin in mid to late May.
During material deliveries, soil/debris removal, or concrete pours at the pump station site, southbound traffic on Bainbridge Boulevard may be reduced to one lane for the safety of our contractor crews and customers.
Final pump station construction is expected to be completed by late 2027.
Park Avenue and Perry Street Sewer Pipeline Work Update

Our contractors are expected to resume sewer pipeline replacement work on Perry Street as early as the week of June 15 to improve sewer system reliability and provide for future wastewater capacity. This work will include excavation and pipe replacement in the area in red on the map shown to the right. Due to this construction, Perry Street will be closed to through traffic with no street parking. Work is expected to be completed by mid-September.
During the work period, these conditions will be in place:
- Access for residents on Perry Street shall be maintained at all times. Occasionally, driveway access may be impacted, but we will work with residents to address any concerns. Residences can be accessed from both Park Avenue and by the yellow access route depicted in the map to the right.
- Mail and package service delivery to residents will not be impacted, and contractors will work with delivery services to ensure that mail and packages reach your home.
- Trash service will continue to be picked up in the locations where you typically place your trash.
While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased traffic and noise such as drilling, engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors, along with the people and heavy equipment associated with construction. Please proceed with caution when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the work zone.
- Vibration monitors are in place to ensure that vibration levels are kept below the allowed threshold.
- Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted.
- Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change
