Boat Harbor Pump Station Conversion

Body

HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility is planning a project in your neighborhood to construct a pump station and an offline storage tank that will be used in high flow events. The pump station and storage facility will help to ensure HRSDs ability to protect the public’s health and the environment. The answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are provided here.

Project Overview

HRSD is undertaking a project which is part of the Sustainable Water Initiative for Tomorrow (SWIFT) Program and includes building a pump station and storage facility. This is a portion of a larger project that will pump the wastewater from HRSD’s Boat Harbor to the Nansemond Treatment Plant in Suffolk. At the Nansemond location, wastewater will be treated prior to discharge to the James River. A significant portion of the treated water will undergo additional advanced treatment to produce SWIFT WaterTM which will meet drinking water standards. This will reduce the nutrients discharged to the James River Basin, support local water quality and Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts. The project is located to the west of Terminal Avenue and to the east of the Dominion Coal Terminal. The contractor will maintain a clean job site and minimize traffic disruption.
