HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, in coordination with the City of Chesapeake, is planning a project in your area to replace the existing HRSD and City sanitary sewer pipelines that are nearing the end of their useful life. This replacement project will also improve the system’s performance and ensure continued, reliable sewer service in the future. The answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are provided here.
The project is located along Canal Drive from the Shell Road intersection to the South Military Highway intersection and at certain locations along Butler Street and Baugher Avenue. This project includes pipelines installed by both open trenching (digging) and trenchless (no open cutting) methods. Theses pipes will be replaced within easements obtained by HRSD and in the city right-of-way. The contractor will maintain a clean job site and minimize traffic disruption.
Staging: March 2020
Construction: Phase 1: work within the public right-of-way along Butler Street
Phase 2: work within the public right-of-way along Baugher Aveue
Phase 3: work within easements and the public right-of-way along Canal Drive
Restoration: Immediately following construction
Thank you for your support of this effort to help achieve HRSD's vision: Future generations will inherit clean waterways and be able to keep them clean.
