Temporary Westbound Lane Closure on Shore Drive for Emergency Pipeline Repairs

Body

(VIRGINIA BEACH) – HRSD crews have closed the left westbound lane of Shore Drive at Indian Hill Road to make repairs to a 20-inch wastewater pipeline that failed late Thursday afternoon. Motorists may also experience delays along Indian Hill Road as crews work to clean up and restore the area from wastewater that was spilled due to the pipe failure.

Preliminary estimates indicate approximately 150,000 gallons of wastewater was lost, impacting the Western Branch of the Lynnhaven River via Lake Joyce and Pleasure House Creek. Residents are advised to avoid contact with any spilled material as crews work diligently to restore and repair the affected area.

Please refer to the Virginia Department of Health Division of Shellfish Safety’s webpage for information regarding any potential shellfish closures for the Lynnhaven River.

Motorists may experience delays because of the reduced travel lanes and should plan accordingly.

HRSD’s mission is to protect public health and the waters of Hampton Roads by treating wastewater effectively. A political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia, HRSD was created by public referendum in 1940 and currently serves 20 cities and counties in southeast Virginia, an area with a population of 1.9 million.
