Rodgers Street Construction Start

South Norfolk Pump Stations concrete pour map

In mid-April, our project is scheduled to begin the sewer pipeline replacement efforts on Rodgers Street between Park Avenue and Byrd Avenue with work beginning near Park Avenue. Construction will include the excavation of the road and sidewalk to replace the existing sanitary sewer pipes.

This work follows our most recent timeframe schedule:

  • Park Avenue to Rodgers Street
    • Summer 2022 to Fall 2024
  • Rodgers Street to Byrd Avenue
    • Spring 2024 to early 2025
  • Byrd Avenue to Bainbridge Boulevard
    • Early 2025 to Spring 2025
  • Bainbridge Boulevard
    • Spring 2025 to Fall 2025

During the construction on Rodgers Street (seen in the blue area in the map image), Rodgers Street will be closed to through traffic and street parking. Residents will need to access their homes via alleys and side streets. If you live on Rodgers Street between Park Avenue and Byrd Avenue, please be aware of the following:

  • Mail and package delivery service to residents will not be impacted. Contractors will work with delivery services to ensure that mail and packages reach your home.
  • Trash service will continue to be picked up in the locations that you typically place your trash.

Construction will take place during daytime hours (7 AM – Sunset). During this operation, you may hear noises such as drilling, engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted.

Park Avenue Sewer Pipeline Update

We have completed the 24-hour jack and bore work on Park Avenue between Stewart Street and Rodgers Street! Remaining work on Park Avenue will include placing further pipeline, confirming pipeline connections via CCTV, filling in bore pits, and restoring the road with temporary asphalt.

Park Avenue will continue to be restricted with no through driving allowed between Hull Street and Jackson Avenue to ensure safety around the construction area. Work on Park Avenue between Bainbridge Boulevard and Hull Street has been extended, and the road is currently restricted until late 2024 at the earliest.  However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes and alleys via Stewart Street, Decatur Street, and Rodgers Street between Jefferson Street and Holly Avenue. The pipeline work on Park Avenue is expected to be completed by late 2024.

While the contractors continue working on Park Avenue, you may hear noises such as engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Vibration monitors will be located onsite and near the construction area to ensure limited disruption to you in your residence. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. Dust control measures such as paving, frequent road cleaning and/or application of water will be enacted to reduce dust from becoming airborne. After construction, roadways and rights-of-way will be restored to their pre-construction structure and materials.

Park Avenue Pump Station Update

mapConstruction continued at the Park Avenue pump station site this month with the further installation of aluminum forms in which concrete will be poured to form the station’s upper walls. Scaffolding is being installed around the structure’s perimeter to aid in installing these forms. This pour began earlier this week and is estimated to continue in late March. The pour process will follow the same process and locations as listed in Notice #38.

Continuing construction work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 6 PM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until summer 2025.

Ferebee Pump Station Update

The replacement structure for Ferebee Pump Station is in its final design stages and is expected to begin construction during late 2024.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
