South Norfolk Pump Stations & Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project

Body

June Project Update – June 2023

Park Avenue Sewer Pipeline Update

Traffic control restrictions and saw cutting of asphaltimage began earlier this month to prepare Park Avenue for excavation as part of HRSD’s replacement of aging sanitary sewer pipelines and public sewer connections on Park Avenue. After excavation is completed, contractors will begin work beneath the pavement to install new sewer lines. Construction work is expected to occur Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 5 PM.

As stated in Construction Notice #21, traffic on Park Avenue will be restricted between Hull Street and Jackson Avenue during this phase of the pipeline replacement project to ensure safety around the construction area. Additionally, the road between Bainbridge Boulevard and Hull Street is currently restricted until August. Beginning in mid-July and extending through August, no street parking is allowed between Hull Street and Stewart Street.

No vehicles will be able to drive through on Park Avenue between Hull Street and Jackson Street during this phase. However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes and alleys via Stewart Street, Decatur Street, and Rodgers Street between Jefferson Street and Holly Avenue. Work is expected to be completed by late 2023.

While the contractors are working, you may hear noises such as drilling, engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Vibration monitors will be located onsite and near the construction area to ensure limited disruption to you in your residence. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. Dust control measures such as paving, frequent road cleaning and/or application of water will be enacted to reduce dust from becoming airborne. After construction, roadways will be restored to their pre-construction structure and materials.

Park Avenue Pump Station Construction Update

Work has resumed for the new Park Avenue Pump Station. Monitoring wells have been installed on Perry Street and along the Rena B. Wright Elementary School property to monitor groundwater around the site. In the next week, contractors will begin dewatering on the pump station site that will remove water to allow for excavation to resume. This work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 7 PM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until Summer 2024.

Ferebee Pump Station Update

The replacement structure for Ferebee Pump Station is in its final design stages and is expected to begin construction during summer 2023.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
