South Norfolk Pump Stations & Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project

Body

July Project Update – July 2023

Park Avenue Sewer Pipeline Update

After setting up a well point system toimage dewater work areas to allow digging, excavation and pipe installation began this month as part of HRSD’s replacement of aging sanitary sewer pipelines and public sewer connections on Park Avenue. Construction work is expected to occur Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 5 PM.

As stated in Construction Notice #21, traffic on Park Avenue will be restricted with no through driving allowed between Hull Street and Jackson Avenue during this phase of the pipeline replacement project to ensure safety around the construction area. Additionally, the road between Bainbridge Boulevard and Hull Street is currently restricted until August.

However, although barriers will be in place, residents will be able to access their homes and alleys via Stewart Street, Decatur Street, and Rodgers Street between Jefferson Street and Holly Avenue. Work is expected to be completed by late 2023.

While the contractors are working, you may hear noises such as drilling, engines, backup alarms, diesel generators and motors. Vibration monitors will be located onsite and near the construction area to ensure limited disruption to you in your residence. Your water and sewer service will not be disrupted. Dust control measures such as paving, frequent road cleaning and/or application of water will be enacted to reduce dust from becoming airborne. After construction, roadways and rights-of-way will be restored to their pre-construction structure and materials.

Park Avenue Pump Station Construction Update

Excavation began at the Park Avenue Pump Stationimage site in early July and is ongoing. Throughout late June and early July, crews dug monitoring wells and pumped water out of the excavation area to keep it dry and ready for equipment to be placed. In early July, excavators began working in and around the site to remove soil. They then placed an aggregate base which was then graded to make sure that the bottom area of the future pump station site was even. Excavation is expected to be completed in the next month and following its completion, concrete will be poured.

This work will occur directly on the pump station property itself, Monday – Friday between the hours of 7 AM – 7 PM. As a reminder, construction of this pump station is ongoing until Summer 2024.

Ferebee Pump Station Update

The replacement structure for Ferebee Pump Station is in its final design stages and is expected to begin construction during summer 2023.

While our project team works diligently to minimize impacts, you may notice increased noise and traffic, along with the people and heavy equipment (with back-up safety alarms) associated with construction. Please take care when traveling around the construction area and for your safety, do not enter the site. Due to the nature of construction, work is weather and situation dependent, and dates are subject to change.
