Sewer Manhole Rehabilitation Project

Body

HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, is undertaking a project to rehabilitate and perform
maintenance for an existing sanitary sewer manhole located at 114 Normandy Lane in Newport News,
Virginia. In order to achieve the rehabilitation needed for the manhole, the contractor will need to use
bypass pumps to move the sewer flow through a temporary bypass pipe. These bypass pumps will be
installed in the manhole in front of 112 Normandy Lane, and bypass piping will be placed in the right-of-
way off the side of the road to the pump station located at 114 Normandy Lane. The bypass piping will
either be buried or a flow ramp will be used in front of driveways to keep access to the home at 112
Normandy Lane. Temporary lane closures may be needed it install the bypass piping for a short
duration. The answers to some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) are provided here.
