CHESAPEAKE – HRSD crews continue working to complete repairs on a sanitary sewer force main at the intersection of Kempsville Road and Stillwater Drive. Sampling from nearby waters following the spill indicates that it is contained within the stormwater retention pond adjacent to Kempsville Road and the Great Bridge Bypass. HRSD crews are developing a remediation plan to clean up the stormwater retention pond and will begin mobilization today.
CHESAPEAKE – Motorists are advised that HRSD is currently performing emergency repairs requiring the closure of Kempsville Road at Stillwater Drive. Motorists traveling northeast on Kempsville Road from Battlefield Boulevard will make a U-turn at Stillwater Drive and motorists traveling southwest along Kempsville are being diverted to Green Tree Road. Motorists approaching Kempsville Road from Clearfield Avenue can only turn right onto Kempsville Road while this work continues.
VIRGINIA BEACH – Motorists are advised that HRSD continues to work within the right westbound lane of Virginia Beach Boulevard starting near Lynnhaven Road and continuing for approximately 500 feet. This lane closure is expected to remain in place through the week. Motorists should exercise caution while driving through the area and may experience delays.
In cooperation with the City of Newport News, HRSD, your regional wastewater treatment utility, is planning to rehabilitate the existing gravity sewer located in this area as part of a larger, federally-mandated program to reduce the sewage overflows during rainstorms. This project is necessary to increase the reliability and capacity of the sewage collection system by rehabilitating aging infrastructure with cured-in-place pipe.
