CHESAPEAKE – HRSD crews will be performing utility repair work on George Washington Highway near the intersection of Old Mill Road from 9:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. tonight and again on Wednesday, February 15. This work will require a reduction in travel lanes to safely perform the required repairs, so motorists may experience travel delays in the area during work hours.

HRSD is undertaking a project to construct a new pump station and sanitary sewer pipeline to convey sewage flows generated at the Dominion Energy Surry Nuclear Power Station to the existing Mt. Ray Pump Station located on Mt. Ray Drive in Surry County. The project will convey only domestic sewage flows (restrooms, kitchens, etc.) from the Dominion facility. The Hog Island pump station will be constructed within the property of the Surry Nuclear Power Station property, and the sewer pipeline will be aligned along the Dominion Energy easement from the Power Station, crossing Route 10 to Mt. Ray. The project will allow closure of the existing sewage treatment plant serving the Power Station.

The sewer pipe installation continues outside the Dominion Surry Power Station. Work is currently occurring at the pump station site. Please see the Project Map for the current work area.
The work will be confined to Dominion Energy property, VDOT Right of Way, and easements. The project will parallel Hog Island Road (Route 650) for a short distance from the Dominion Energy Surry Nuclear Power Station. The majority of the work will be located in the Dominion Energy Easement crossing Hog Island Road (Route 650), Landing Drive (Route 780), Old Brickyard Road, Burnt Mill Road (Route 628), and Colonial Trail East (Route 10). Construction traffic will be travelling along the listed roads periodically entering and exiting the work zone.

This project is a necessary to eliminate the existing sewage treatment plant located on the Dominion Energy Surry Nuclear Power Station property.
The route was selected to reduce impacts to existing property and minimize traffic disruptions.
Disruptions to traffic will be minimized, and in most cases, a single lane of traffic will be maintained. No planned detours are anticipated, but flagging will be used to help direct traffic as needed. The majority of the project work will be located within the public and private right-of ways, easements, and HRSD property.
The contractor will ensure access to residences and at least one entrance to businesses will be maintained throughout construction. Trash and mail services will not be affected. If necessary, the contractor will move trash containers from within a work zone to an area accessible for pickup and will be responsible for returning them to each residence.
Work will typically take place Monday through Friday during daylight hours (7 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.). However, there may be times when extended hours, work at night, or weekend work may be necessary.
Your water and sewer service should not be impacted by this project.
The majority of the work will be outside of pavement limits but within the public right-of-way and easements. Major road crossings will be completed by tunneling under the roadway. Minor roads may be open cut. Any surface features including pavements, curb, sidewalks, etc. damaged during construction will be restored.
The typical construction noises such as equipment engines, back-up alarms, materials being delivered, diesel generators, air compressors, sawing, and associated activities should be anticipated.
The contractor will keep some supplies within the active work zone. Other materials will be stored at an offsite location.
Construction workers will not be allowed to park their personal vehicles on the public streets. However, work trucks will be allowed to park within the active work zone.
The estimated cost for the project is $9 million, and it is financed by the wastewater treatment fees paid by HRSD customers.

HAMPTON – Motorists are advised that HRSD crews will be installing sanitary sewer pipelines on Settlers Landing Road between the Hampton River and William R. Harvey Way as part of the Phoebus Area Sanitary Sewer Extension Project. During this work, one outside westbound lane of Settlers Landing Road will be closed as indicated on the map below. This work is scheduled to begin as early as January 23rd and is expected to remain in place through March.

NEWPORT NEWS -- HRSD will hold its annual meeting to review the status of the Integrated Plan/Regional Wet Weather Management Plan (RWWMP) at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, 2023. (VIRGINIA BEACH) – HRSD crews have closed the left westbound lane of Shore Drive at Indian Hill Road to make repairs to a 20-inch wastewater pipeline that failed late Thursday afternoon. Motorists may also experience delays along Indian Hill Road as crews work to clean up and restore the area from wastewater that was spilled due to the pipe failure.
